Double Track Your Guitars For A Fuller Sound
Lets start by talking about electric guitar.
When it comes to recording electric guitars, my default choice is to record each guitar in mono. This is because an electric guitar amplifier acts as a single sound source.
Now, you can certainly use multiple microphones to capture the amp and blend them for a richer tone, but this is still considered a mono recording.
Now, if you want to achieve a wider, more larger than life sound, consider double tracking your guitars.
This technique involves recording the same or similar guitar part twice and panning each take hard left and right to create a stereo like effect.
The small variations in performance, tone, and even equipment choices can contribute to a fuller sound.
