Rust is stressful, even regular fishing is stressful. And with horse poop farming a total nuisance due to the trade in vendor having a low wallet and many servers have a jump up to reach the shop, I now think fish trap farming is the best safe & easy scrap method. This base will let you dabble in it with a fairly low investment but still using 8 fish traps to go through bait relatively quickly. In practice this base has netted me a few thousand extra scrap over a few days just passively paying attention to it. Simply take a nailgun when you leave base and grab any animal you see, especially bears.
