From Italian director, screenwriter and writer Pier Giuseppe Murgia, this Italian / West-German drama film features a cast of only three: French actress and filmmaker Eva Ionesco, Martin Loeb, and German actress Lara Wendel, who worked extensively in both Italian cinema and television, and found herself working alongside horror icons such as Dario Argento, Lamberto Bava, Joe D'Amato, and Umberto Lenzi among others. The film caused significant public outcry upon release due to scenes involving both nudity and simulated sex involving underage actresses. Both girls were only eleven or twelve years of age at the time of filming. Essentially, the film deals with the awkwardness of adolescence and the feelings that can be present during puberty. There is love, hate, cruelty, yearning and ultimately realization and understanding. Released in Germany as 'Let's Play Love, and also known as 'Puppy Love, the locations for the film (Austria and Kärnten) are quite stunning, and the direction is well handled.

Despite the subject matter, the film contains a wonderful soundtrack by Pippo Caruso, who has created a varied pastiche of themes describing the different situations in the film between dream and reality. The main title is a pastoral theme introduced with flute which includes a child-like voice with pop orchestral arrangements, reprised again with a more moving version played by a solo violin and orchestra and again by French horns and orchestra. The soundtrack also includes nine previously unreleased, alternate takes of the album tracks with the important inclusion of track 21, a sweet Pop ballad originally intended but then rejected from the official release. Giuseppe 'Pippo' Caruso is without doubt one of the most noted names in Italian television (scoring music for hundreds of shows), and actively worked alongside Pippo Baudo, one of Italy's most recognized television presenters with a career spanning six decades. He also built a great career as orchestra conductor and composer, collaborating with some of the greatest Italian and international artists, and has written numerous hit songs and music for several stage shows. Some of his more notable film scores include the western 'Kill Johnny Ringo! (1966), the drama film 'Eyes Behind the Wall (1977), and the crime film 'Pigs with P.38 (1978).
