Update: We were one of the winners at the hackathon!
For the Launchology AI for Hackathon 2024, I have created EcoVision, an AI-powered application designed to combat littering and promote sustainable waste disposal. Users can capture images of littering and environmental events, organize and participate in community cleanups, and utilize AI-driven guidance for proper recycling. Additionally, the app provides educational videos on deforestation, raising awareness and fostering a deeper understanding of environmental issues.

Problem:
Environmental degradation, particularly littering and improper waste disposal, poses a significant threat to both urban and natural ecosystems. According to the World Bank, global waste generation is projected to increase by 70% from 2016 levels to 3.40 billion metric tons by 2050 if current practices continue. This does not only strain landfill capacities, but it also increases pollution, harming wildlife and contributing to climate change. This alarming data displays the urgency for innovative solutions to manage waste more effectively and promote environmental sustainability.

For the program, we intended to use the following tools.
1. AI-Driven Waste Identification: Users can take pictures of litter, and our AI system, built using the Tensor ML model, accurately identifies and categorizes the waste, providing proper disposal instructions.
2. Community Engagement Tools: CleanAI enables users to organize and participate in local cleanup events, fostering a strong sense of community and collective action.
3. Educational Resources: We offer educational videos and articles on the impacts of deforestation and sustainable practices, empowering users with the knowledge to make environmentally friendly choices.

Future Plans
Enhanced AI Capabilities: Continuously improving the AI algorithms for more accurate waste identification and categorization.
Partnerships: We can collaborate with local government agencies, NGOs, and educational institutions.
