As a rule, experienced beekeepers prepare bee colonies for the next season from autumn. At the beginning of May, I make lay-offs from each main family, so I need to prepare strong families from autumn so that after overwintering, families remain as strong and healthy and begin to develop intensively. What is my method of preparing families for winter in the fall? All my work during the season is aimed at maintaining strong families for the period of the main bribe and subsequently retaining strong families after the main bribe, when there is an accumulation of young, physiologically not worn out, ready for a harsh long winter.
What am I doing for this?
1. I change queens in every family every year. This contributes to the energetic and long-lasting work of the uterus on oviposition.
2. During the main bribe, I do not limit the uterus in worming.
3. Necessarily, according to a special technique, I conduct the first preventive treatment of families from varroatosis. I do this before the main bribe.
4. I make sure that there is a sufficient amount of carbohydrate and protein feed in the nests.
5. During the August revision of families, I make sure that there are enough free cells for worming the uterus At this time, I conduct a second preventive treatment of bee colonies from varroatosis.
6. At the beginning of September, I feed those families with well-fed honey, where it is necessary.
