Why did people get so angry at Sinead O’Connor for ripping up a picture of the Pope?

We’ll forever love and admire Sinéad O’Connor for that moment. She’s no longer with us. Sinéad was a troubled soul. And she had her reasons. As a child, she was abused by nuns and her mom.

In 1992, she tore up the Pope’s picture, on live TV when she was on SNL, performing a song. She wanted to make a statement, to call out the church for the long-term sexual abuse and pedophilia that had been going on, and that had kept on being hidden from the world. RIP.
