Wildlife
During the breeding season, males vocalize intensely during the night and at dusk and dawn. Throughout most of its range, the mating season occurs in December to January and after a gestation period of around 50–53 days, two to four pups are born in a den. Both parents participate in pup-rearing and protection.
Admin / Veterinarian here...Thank you for the amazing photographic capture of fox mating that most people never get to see!
NOTES..
The male has an organ called the bulbus glandis, which is responsible for keeping him tied up with the female. The breeding tie basically keeps the semen secured inside the female. The bulbus glandis expands and gets locked in the vagina, and the female has higher chance of successfully being impregnated.
The approximate time for which the canids can be stuck butt to butt varies between 5 minutes to 15 minutes. However, depending on several factors, the copulatory tie can take as long as half an hour.
