ILF: "La enseñanza del Zapoteco como segunda lengua" with Rayo Cruz
Rayo Cruz es tesista de la Maestría en Lingüística Aplicada en la Universidad de Guadalajara, México. Como hablante del idioma Zapoteco, su principio y fundamento es la revitalización y fortalecimiento de su lengua y cultura.
The speaker will be Rayo Cruz. Rayo is a Master's student working on his thesis in Applied Linguistics at the University of Guadalajara, Mexico. As a speaker of the Zapotec language, his guiding principles and foundation are the revitalization and strengthening of his language and culture.
A pesar de las dificultades que implica la enseñanza del Zapoteco como segunda lengua, el Curso Básico de Zapoteco se ha mantenido durante tres años. Hasta el momento han egresado 150 estudiantes del primer nivel. Este año se lanzó el segundo nivel para que los estudiantes puedan dar continuidad a su aprendizaje del Zapoteco. También se está planeando lanzar (en el largo plazo) un curso virtual que se pueda estudiar de forma independiente. Además, se están elaborando materiales didácticos y recursos para enseñar y para aprender. Este curso se ha convertido en una de las pocas o nulas opciones para aprender Zapoteco y también uno de los pocos espacios donde se puede desarrollar la habilidad de enseñarlo y adquirir experiencia como profesor de Zapoteco como segunda lengua
In 2020 the Bëni Xidza collective, the CEUXHIDZA and SURCO AC, decided to offer a basic Zapotec course via zoom that would allow those interested to get to know this language and learn the most basic words and expressions of Zapotec, its characteristics and current situation, as well as its challenges in the contemporary world. This course consists of 20 one-hour sessions; two classes per week. In total there are 20 hours of training where participants interact with the language through different activities such as games and songs, as well as the use of interactive tools on the web such as kahoot, quizzlet, classroom, jamboard, etc. This course is given twice a year: in spring (February-May) and in autumn (August-December). The schedule and dates of the classes vary according to the period but are always adjusted to the availability of the participants. The course is open to the public and is designed for adults who wish to learn Zapotec as a second language.
