Cosmo Sheldrake - The Feet Are The Link

This is a setting of an extract of a poem called “Sengzhao” by the Canadian poet Robert Bringhurst. I first came across it in his wonderful book Everywhere Being is Dancing and it immediately leapt out at me. I love the way it so simply demonstrates the porosity of the body and its interminglement with the world. I set it to music in my solar powered studio during one of the lockdowns. I then asked the wonderful vocal ensemble HOWL to join me in singing it.

Between earth and the body

These uprooted feet
