The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly considering making a play for Atlanta Hawks superstar guard Trae Young this offseason.
According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, Lakers brass have had "internal discussions" about what a "hypothetical trade offer" for Young could possibly entail during the offseason.
The 24-year-old Young was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft. He has established himself as one of the most dynamic guards in the league during his five-year NBA career.
The two-time All-Star boasts career averages of 25.5 points, 9.3 assists, 3.7 rebounds, 2.5 made three-pointers and 1.0 steals per game.
While Young was not named an All-Star this season, he averaged 26.2 points, 10.2 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game for a Hawks team that made the playoffs as the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference.
The Lakers can also get Kyrie and retain Austin Reaves this summer, via @WindhorstESPN.
“The way this series is ending the more likely it becomes… Kyrie is ready to come to the Lakers.”
In all likelihood, getting Irving would mean gutting the team to a certain extent, and one would have to expect that Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, Irving’s current team, would also demand substantial draft capital.
