Joe Dev On Tech - The Great 4K Debate
4K has become a hot topic in both the content and distribution world. The floor at CES was covered in 4K capable devices, TV’s and service providers. As CE manufacturers, namely Samsung and Sony, tout and push their new 4K TV's and streaming devices, the question remains if there will be enough content to support them. 4K content is neither cheap to produce nor render in post production. Will content producers from major studios to independent film makers choose to adopt the new technology and create content using 4K cameras? Will studios and post production facilities support the new format? Will CDN’s be able to compress the files and provide 4K streaming capabilities so consumers can watch these titles in comfort of their home. There are many unanswered questions regarding 4K but the battle is heating up.
