Full Interview of Jerry Krantz at El Chapultepec, Denver, CO
We interviewed Jerry Krantz, legendary bar owner of the legendary bar El Chapultepec (closed during COVID, 2020) in July, 2011. Jerry passed away not too long after we had our conversation with him.
Jerry was famous for running this little jazz bar and Mexican food joint while Denver's "LoDo" district was a rough and tumble place full of vagrants, drunks, bums and the occasional beatnik - like Jack Kerouac who would slip in, stoned, and listen to music.
In this interview, Jerry recollects the last 60 years of running what Esquire called the best bar in the world. He talks about all the jazz greats that passed through the "Pec", how he notoriously dealt with rowdy customers, and the time he kicked U2 out.
