VMware Workstation: How to install Ubuntu (Beginners Guide)

With VMware Workstation Player (previously VMware Player), you can run whole operating systems on top of Windows or Ubuntu in a virtual machine. It looks like it's running on its own computer to the guest operating system, which is the one that runs within the virtual machine. The VMware Workstation Player, which gives the guest access to resources like the network, is executed by the host operating system. VMware offers a free download for it.

Ubuntu is a Linux-based operating system that is free and open source. Those who are unfamiliar with Linux are typically its target audience. Compared to Windows and MacOS, Ubuntu has the following advantages:

Ubuntu offers greater customization options.
Older hardware is better suited for Ubuntu.
You are not spied on by Ubuntu.
Ubuntu is more reliable.
For coding, Ubuntu is a good choice.
