Luke Smith - Suckless Software for Everyone: You too can LARP as a good programer!
2023 SouthEast LinuxFest; The Suckless project (suckless.org) is an attempt to bring simple and clear programming back to free software computing but what does this mean for your desktop? This talk is not just an overview of the philosophy of Suckless software (based in the Unix Philosophy) but also a showcase of how simple software can be stretched to accomplish much of what obese modern programs struggle to match. Overviewed are sucklesss tiling window manager dwm (the origin of i3wm AwesomeWM and more) st (the terminal) but most importantly tools like dmenu and others that easily make even beginner hackers and programmers capable of making fun powerful and extensible scripts and programs that make life easy. ?
