Part 4 of a 4 part series of videos showing footage from the Itchiku Grand Show in Tokyo, 1982. This footage shows the work of Itchiku Kubota in this stunning kimono fashion show, restored from original VHS footage.
Part 4 of the Itchiku Grand Show talks about how many thought that Kubota's innovations in kimono design were too radical at the time. However it was an important step and started the "Itchiku Way" of wearing kimono.
From the video:
Although Kubota's audience were held spellbound by the opulence of "Itchiku's Grand Show", his innovative ideas for wearing kimono may have been too radical at the time.
Nevertheless, this was an influential move in democritisation of the traditions with many of his followers wearing kimono the "Itchiku way" and his apprentices working on developing his ideas and technique.
