We found two WW2 2 German helmets Metal detecting WW2
Everything started a a usual day on the nearby mountains, we were just exploring an area where the German Mountain troops camped for weeks during their advance in World War 2.
We found out that they had tents placed in the area but also individual trenches scattered between tents. Also something very interesting was the fact that they installed land mines in the area the German S-mines that served as anti personal mines.
Now after more than 70 years from World War 2 you can barely see the trenches and we know for sure that were deep enough for a soldier to stand in it, so we decided to dig deeper in one of the trenches. So after removing about 10 cm of soil out metal detector was picking
a really high signal and we were pretty sure that something big is down there, we were right because after another 30 cm of soil we started to see the edge of not one but two German helmets at the bottom of the trench.
But before taking the helmets out we found some other very cool finds like a German canteen cup, some kind of alarm system, a tiny round mirror and a German flare.
When we reached the helmets we found out that one was placed upside down and the water was trapped inside and over time made a few holes in it (well the rust got the job done) but still nice finds. The other helmet was in a better shape,
and with the side marks still on it, well barely visible but still awesome. After we thought that we dug up everything in that trench we got surprised by finding two more relics, a German military shovel and a shot glass near the helmets.
After examining one of the helmets we discovered that the leather inside was broken at that time and the soldier tried to make it comfortable by replacing the missing leather piece with stacked pieces of paper, we were able to read some text on the papers, most likely was
a newspaper from that time.
For me was a great day and I won't forget it soon, I hope you'll enjoy it as well and I'm sorry for the shaky image and poor sound quality but back then we were still learning about this and didn't had an audio recorder, but despite that it is still worth watching.
Enjoy!
