In our first video, Rachel, one of our Community Dietitians talks about the right time to introduce solids, looking for signs of readiness, how to get started as well as important information about Vitamin D and milks.

Premature Babies:
Please note the information below is very different from introducing solids to a baby born at full term and therefore, it only applies to premature babies. If your baby was born less than 32 weeks gestation, they will be seen regularly in neonatal Neurodevelopmental clinic and starting solids (weaning) advice will be discussed at these appointments in more detail. The aim is to start them on solid food (pureed food only at this stage) between 4 and 6 months corrected gestational age. This process should never begin before 4 months corrected gestational age, aiming to start closer to 6 months corrected gestational age.
