This is my AMV entry for Anime Weekend Atlanta 2024 Accolades contest.

What got me to make the video was rather on a whim. I was already working on an action entry when I came across "1987" by DIAMANTE randomly looking through videos on Youtube towards the end of 2023. The song just hits you like a rock, and of course, I was like, "What can I make with this song for a video?" Bubblegum Crisis seemed to stick to my mind, and I went all in for that.

I think picking Bubblegum Crisis for my source is a terrific fit since the first OVA was released in 1987, so that's a bit of a no brainer (other than it being my favorite anime series of all time!) The more I worked on it the more I realized that I wanted to make the best Bubblegum Crisis AMV I know I can do. At first, I wanted to try and make something to beat out KNIGHT SABER CITY by @Synæsthesia Productions released in 2022 (that to me is still the ultimate BGC amv out there). The more I put that kind of mindset on me, the more stressed I got working on it, till I realized I need to make the best video I know how to make that in the end, ill be completely satisfied with my work and not have to feel that I need to make another BGC amv ever again (I'm saying that as of my writing, but who knows what i'll do in the future). This is my fourth BGC AMV I've ever done (with my last one I made back in 2023).

Once I came to that realization I was much more relaxed to continue working on it with taking several breaks for days or weeks at a time, and one of those breaks I worked on my live action entry for the Accolades which that video was made just by me having fun editing. I had @NekoKitkat25hug give commentary on the video for some changes and decided that I was satisfied by the work i've put into it and was going to let it go. From start to finish, i'd say this video took me about 6 to 7 months to work on.

When it came time for the Accolades part of the contest for Best Throwback and who I was against (@Synæsthesia Productions of all people haha), I didnt know what to expect. I was once again overcome with tears of joy when I saw my video up on the screen as the winner at the contest at Anime Weekend Atlanta for Best Throwback. A lot of things hit me at once as I felt a tear go down one of my cheeks as my video was playing. These were things like "I made a video to one of my favorite anime series and it won a major award," "I put my heart into this video and people were able to see that effort is clearly shown, so my hard work paid off," "My losing streak funk of 2024 has ended," and "What Bubblegum Crisis figure should I display on my shelf next to my award?" I also remember several hands patting on the back from other editors around me congratulating me. Talk about a wonderful moment, something I needed that I wasn't expecting. That weekend at AWA, I rocked all my Bubblegum Crisis shirts I had for the con, like wearing a football team shirt before a national championship, and having that team win. However, this is 10 times better than that feeling.

I believe as i'm writing this, this is my favorite video i've worked on. Everything can always be better, but I know this is the video I have the biggest heart for. I have no regrets in my scene selection, and feel that if I make any more changes it'll take away from the video and make it worse. This is how I want people to see my video, and im truly satisfied by that.

This video has become a passion project that i've put my heart into, and I hope everyone out there can see the effort that went into it. This is a truly personal video for me. Thank you for watching, and see you on the next video!
