Avid Engineer Terron Darby demonstrates how to set up Ableton Live and Pro Tools using ReWire. Using ReWire, you can freely route up to 64 channels of audio and MIDI between different software platforms. ReWire was developed by Propellerhead and Steinberg as a solution for using Propellerhead's Reason software within a separate DAW such as Steinberg's Cubase, and as you'll see in the video it's also perfect for connecting Ableton Live and Avid Pro Tools.

Using ReWire within Pro Tools is easy: create an Aux track, and assign ReWire to the first insert slot. Open a ReWire-compatible program such as Ableton Live, and you're ready to route audio and MIDI between them. The ReWire interface allows you to manage your routing scheme between programs.

If you produce tracks in Ableton Live, ReWire makes it easy to bring your music into Pro Tools for final mixing and mastering. And if you're a mix engineer using Pro Tools, ReWire is a great solution when a client needs to import loops projects they've created in Live.
