The original version was recorded in 1969 . . . The original was also covered nicely by Ash Centi as a recent live duet in Liverpool . . . It looks as though Ash Centi and I have posted the only covers of this song on youtube, i think that's a little odd . . . . I took the liberty of omitting a couple of verses . . . and somewhat modifying a few words of what i chose to keep . . . .. . also . . . . Lenny is supposedly not Lenny Bruce. one story seems to be that a disconsolate Ochs was living in the former apartment of someone named "Lenny" . . . . . and Lenny's ex (presumably a woman but cant be sure) has returned (maybe frequently) to see if Lenny really still lives there . . . .there is also an alternate report that it is in fact related somehow to lenny bruce . . . so i guess, in either case, what we have here are twinned stories of sadness and dislocation, both inside and out
