Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery review by Sucharita Tyagi - Glass Onion isn’t as clever, or frankly as satisfying as the first one, which took audiences all over the world by surprise tbh with how fresh and funny it was. This one, once again written by Rian Johnson, seems to strain a LITTLE bit, tying its threads together, relying on heavy exposition, lengthy flashbacks, overexplaining in voice-over, lazy overheard conversation moments, unexpected look-alikes….but the cast, especially a wonderfully cooky kate Hudson make all of this work, until a slightly laborious but overall fun climax sequence.
Not to say the tying together doesn’t actually happen, it does most suitably and adequately, but perhaps sensing a little bit, some unsteady footwork might derail the viewers’ interest and enjoyment, Rian Johnson LOADS his movie with many many cameos, including posthumous Steven Sondheim, Angela Lansbury appearances over a zoom call. Bohot saare hain aur bhi, dekhenge aap, it's all VERY sweet and wholesome. Janelle Monae is lit and dressed like a goddess, Bautista gets slapped by his mother, the ideas and themes are clear.
And….refreshingly simple.
