In July 2019, I did something I hadn’t done since I was 12; I recorded a video where I talk to my future self. Not in a jokey, scripted way as I’ve done in recent years (some of which was recorded during the same session) but something more personal and improvised, with no plan for how it would be used. There's a reason I don't do this very often; it's uncomfortable. It's like staring into the abyss. Nobody can see into the future but I couldn't conceive of how the world was about to change. As a result, I sat on this material for five years. I didn't want to look like I was ripping off a popular YouTube series that cropped up during that time. I won't go into why I finally decided to make this, other than five years seeming like a good amount of time. I just hope it resonates with people. It's the first proper continuation of A Conversation With My 12 Year Old Self. I’m really happy with how it turned out. I’m also ready to move on.
