Astronomers have discovered the pi planet!
Astronomers recently discovered an Earth-like planet called the pi-planet. It zips around its star every 3.14 days in an orbit that reminds us of the universal mathematical constant pi. The planet lies at a distance of 186 light years and has a radius similar to that of Earth. Its tight orbit brings the planet close enough to its star to heat its surface up to 450 kelvins, or around 350 degrees Fahrenheit. As it turns out, that’s a perfect temperature for baking an actual pie. It orbits a cool, low-mass star about one-fifth the size of the Sun. But since the rocky world comes too close to the star, it is too hot to host life as we know it. Astronomers hope the James Webb Space Telescope can provide detailed insights into the exoplanet’s atmosphere.
