How To Play Ark: Survival Evolved With Your Friends On PC (Steam)

Text based instructions:
Player 1 - Click on HOST/LOCAL
Player 1 - Click on Host a NON-DEDICATED server
Player 1 - Name the session with NO spaces & accept
Player 1 - When the session loads, hold SHIFT + TAB
Player 1 - Invite Player 2 with the "Invite to Lobby" on the Friend Tab (not in the center, but a drop menu)
Player 2 - Holds SHIFT + TAB while in game & clicks "Play Game" on the message from Player 1
