Today I am reviewing the Samson C01U Pro USB condenser microphone. The C01U Pro is a large diaphragm condenser USB microphone that can connect directly to your computer. And if you’re looking to buy one of these, I’ll leave a link below.

The C01u Pro is currently available in two colors: Silver and Black. I am obviously testing the black version today. When you buy the mic, it comes with almost everything you need to get started. You get the mic itself, a screw on mic stand adapter which lets you mount it to any standard mic stand; You also get a foldable tabletop mic stand to get you started and a 4foot long USB cable to connect the device to your computer. The microphone’s body is actually reasonably heavy and seems to be made from cast aluminum. There’s an LED indicator light right below the recording surface. The indicator turns green when the mic is plugged in and ready to use. And blinks red in case you’re too close to the mic and your voice is peaking. And below the LED indicator, you’ll find a headphone jack that lets you plug in your headphones and monitor your recording. There’s absolutely no delay in the audio into the headphones and this is extremely useful when setting your input levels correctly. More about levels in a minute. The provided USB cable plugs into the bottom of the mic. The provided mic stand obviously isn’t perfect, but it’ll definitely get you started if you’re on a budget. The only thing they don’t provide is a windscreen. I highly recommend getting an inexpensive windscreen to prevent plosives and spit from ruining your recording. And I’ll leave a link to a windscreen that’ll fit this mic, right below the video. The Samson C01U Pro is pretty much a plug-n-play device. When plugged into a Mac or PC, it’ll be recognized almost instantly and will be ready to use. With windows computers, it might install some basic drivers the first time you plug it in. As with all the mics I test, I recommend recording through the free Audacity recording software. So in case this is your first USB condenser mic, I wanna give you a good reference point.
So the audio you’re hearing right now is the audio from the built-in mic on my MacBook Pro laptop. And you can probably tell that it sounds a bit tinny and hollow. Standard laptop mic audio. Now I am going to plug in the C01U Pro and let’s see how that sounds.

So the audio you’re hearing right now is from the Samson C01U Pro. The mic is on it’s desktop stand and is about 12 inches away from me on my table. This is the position most people will use it in. And I have the input level set to 50%. Now I found out, through a bit of trial and error, that 50% was really the best setting, if you wanted to reduce the background noise the mic picks up. And talking about background noise, I am going to keep quiet for a few seconds so you can hear the background noise it picks up with the level set to 50 %. So how does the Samson C01U Pro perform? I think it performs extremely well, especially considering it’s price. The Audio quality is rich, warm, clear and picks up very little background noise. If this is your first USB condenser mic or if you’re upgrading from an entry-level mic like the Samson Go Mic, I definitely recommend this. It’s a great mic to improve the audio quality of your videos, vocals, podcasts or voiceovers. And what I really love about it is that comes pretty much ready to go. Put a windscreen on it and you’re ready to go. If you’re looking to buy this mic, I’ll leave a link below this video. Hope this review was useful. If it was, please give us a big thumbs up and subscribe to stay tuned for more reviews. Also feel free to check out our reviews of other popular studio microphones.
