Grab your coffee bois and girls and let's dive in a new After Effects Tutorial.
In this tutorial I'm covering a technique I've been using quite a lot during my time as a motion designer. This Burning Effect method
is something I've been refining over the years, and this is the final form that it reached.
So here's how it goes: after we set up a nice background with just a Ramp effect and a Fractal Noise effect applied to it, we create our text layer.
We pre-compose (ctrl+shift+c) this layer, so that if we want to change the text later, we can go ahead and do so and the effect will be the same.
We create a new white solid, and animate a Linear Wipe effect for it. This will be used as a base layer for our transition.
Next step is to apply a displacement map effect to this layer, and for displacement map we will simply use a pre-composed solid layer, that just has a fractal noise effect applied to it.
Additionally, we use a turbulent displace effect to give it a little extra detail (make sure this turbulent displace effect is placed above of the displacement map effect).
Now we will filter out the edge region of this transition, by overlaying a duplicate of the same layer, only with an Invert effect applied to it.
This layer will now be used as a highlight for our burning transition effect. I also add fractal noise to this layer, and combined with a tritone effect and glow, we can obtain some really nice highlights that drive our transition animation.
Now this new highlight layer can be used as an emitter to drive our particles (using Trapcode Particular). The settings for particles here are really basic, and nothing really worth going in depth about.
Finally, we use a couple of additional particular layers to create some nice ambient particles, and we're done!
