Sokollu Mehmed Pasha; A Bosnian devshirme who has seen 3 sultans and served as grand vizier for 14 years… One of the features that makes Sokollu Mehmed Pasha so important is that he is a man of projects. So, what were Sokollu Mehmed Pasha's three major projects, two of which have been realized today? Why did he develop these projects? What did he aim at with his project to build a canal in Suez? For what reason did Sokollu fail to realize the Suez Canal project? What was the aim of the Don-Volga Canal project? Why was the Don-Volga Canal project carried out simultaneously with the Astrakhan Expedition not completed? What was Sokollu aiming for in the Gulf-Sapanca-Sakarya Canal project?
