Margaret of Austria (1480-1530) was a fervent patron of music and the arts. After enduring many misfortunes during her youth, she became governor of the Habsburg Netherlands and attracted the finest humanists, poets and artists of the time to the court in Mechelen.
In this programme, countertenor Daniel Elgersma and recorder quintet Seldom Sene present chansons and motets found in one of Margaret's songbooks (B-Br MS 228) and five-part settings from a set of part books copied in the workshop of the court scribe Petrus Alamire (A-Wn Mus.Hs. 18746 Mus).
