Let me start with the short gist of the story
A dog who is a pet of a rich lady
she loves her dog very much so she won't refuse anything to him
as a result the dog became fat and ill
His mistress consult a veterinary surgeon
And the dog is admitted to the hospital
What happened to the dog? does he perform an operation
Does the dog recover?

Triumph of surgery was written by James Herriot
His real name is
James Alfred Wight is known by the pen name James Herriot
he was a British veterinary surgeon and writer,
(3 October 1916 – 23 February 1995),
who used his many years of experiences as a veterinary surgeon to write a series of books each consisting of stories about animals and their owners.
He is best known for these semi-autobiographical works,
which means real-life incident mixed with fiction
in 1970 he published a book If Only They Could Talk, which was very famous and also appeared in a series of movies and television

now let's get into the story
The story starts when Mrs Pumphrey, a rich lady takes her dog out for a walk.
our author and also veterinary doctor sees the dog and shocked as he sees that the dog looks like a bloated sausage with a leg at each end.
Bloated- excessive in size or amount.
He advises the rich lady MRS pamphery to stop giving him unhealthy things to eat
but Mrs Pumphrey is not able to refuse him.
because she loves her dog very much
Soon tricky falls sick and in bad condition
so Mrs phampry called the doctor
The narrator, Mr Herriot came and explained that the dog has to be admitted to the hospital
Mrs Pumphrey is not ready to leave her dog and nearly fainted just by hearing these words.
but Mr herroit explained that it is the only way to save your dog
then she has no other option she agreed
The narrator took the dog in his car. Mrs Pumphrey gave Tricki’s belongings like bed, cushions, toys, various bowls, coats etc.
but the narrator refuses to take those because there is no space in his car
Then he takes the dog to the hospital,
Tricki looked down at other dogs. They sniffed around triki and ignored it.
The dog doesn't move much nor eats anything for the first two days.
On the second day, he looks around and whimpers a bit.
He wanted to go out on the third day and when he was taken out.
started playing with the other dogs
Becosue of the hunger
triki licked the bowls of other dogs started to eat on the third day.
Then his condition started improving very fast. tricky started fighting for his meals with other dogs.
when this news reached Mrs Pumphrey, she started sending him eggs as she thought that Tricki needed energy foods to recover from an illness
Mr Herriot and his partners started eating those eggs for morning breakfast.
Then for improving Tricki’s blood, Mrs. Pumphrey started sending in bottles of wine which was again consumed by Mr. Herriot.
He used to take two glasses before lunch and some more glasses while having his lunch.
Then when she started sending in bottles of brandy for Tricki that was the time when Mr. Herriot thought that he would really like to keep Tricki as a permanent guest in the hospital.
Mr Herriot used to be really happy someday by having two extra eggs every morning.
Then having few glasses of wine in the afternoon and close the day by having brandy at night.
But then he took a wise decision and called up Mrs Pumphrey as she was really worried and on this side, Tricki was ready to be taken back home.
the rich lady came with an excitement
Tricki was happy to see his mistress and jumped into the car. Mrs Pumphrey said that she won't be able to ever thank him for what he had done
and also, that his surgery had been successful as Tricki was now cured.
this story tells us how loving someone more than required can be dangerous too, the victory of surgery gave back the dog's life and the owner learned a lesson
