In Which Lens - pro v consumer part 1 we looked at the physical differences between my professional Nikon ED AF-S VR Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 lens and my old 70-200mm consumer lens. In part 2 we compared image sharpness at the extremes of the lens and here in part 3 we'll hit the streets for some real world comparison.

With the consumer lens I have to increase my ISO to get a fast enough shutter speed to avoid camera shake - even with my widest aperture. The F2.8 VR lens has a wider aperture which lets in more light - and the VR (vibration reduction) will give me about an extra stop to play with as well so I don't need to touch the ISO. The shutter is fast enough already. If you're unclear about these things please come more of our photo tuition videos at http://www.photographycourses.biz/pho... where all this is explained.

The wider aperture on the F2.8 gives me a shallower depth of field so I can isolate my subject better than with the F5.6 aperture on the consumer lens. You can download these images for yourself at http://www.photographycourses.biz/len...
