In this video, we'll discuss the difference between conditional formatting and custom formatting, and how you can use each to insert icons into your workbook. We'll also show you some examples of how to use each method, so you can decide which one is right for you.

Understanding conditional formatting in excel is a great skill, and understanding custom formats can be even better. This video covers two methods of formatting icon sets in excel based on conditions - conditional formatting and custom formatting.

It shows you two methods: the first is how to use Excel's own conditional format icon sets to compare 2 columns (using excel conditional formatting arrows). The second method shows you how to create your own custom formats in excel and use any symbols, such as those in the wingdings font types. This gives you much better flexibility on what symbols you can format with so you can do conditional formatting with custom symbols.
