HELP! I Can't Open my ELECTRIC TAILGATE! (2020 GMC Sierra Denali)

This fancy loaded 2020 GMC Sierra 3500 Denali Duramax truck has an embarrassing problem: The electric tailgate is BROKEN, so you can't use the bed of your fancy new truck!!

Previous owner said that it was involved in a minor rear-end collision, and the tailgate was repaired but now the electric actuators don't release.

There is a warning message on the dash that says "INNER TAILGATE OPEN"...that's the ONLY clue we have, and a scanner is not very helpful!!

Let's see if we can diagnose and solve this weird problem without buying any EXPENSIVE parts ;)
