The Lingayat vote has played a major role in Karnataka politics for many years.They have traditionally supported BJP, which has a stronghold in the Lingayat-dominated regions of the state. The BJP has been successful in mobilising Lingayat votes through the leadership of prominent Lingayat leaders such as BS Yediyurappa, who was the chief minister of Karnataka for four terms.In the 2018 elections, BJP won 38 out of the 70 seats where Lingayat votes matter. The Lingayat vote is expected to play an important role in the results of this year's elections.
