If you were a burglar, where would be the most obvious place to look for the smallest items with the highest value?
The answer is probably in a locked safe.
And with the recent burglaries happening throughout CA, even 1,000 pound safes are proving to be no match for some of the professional criminal gangs.
Also if you were a burglar, where would be the two most obvious locations where you would look for a safe?
1. Inside the home's master bedroom
2. The home office
If you have a conventional safe, especially if you have it one of these two locations, you are giving yourself a false sense of security. But rather than get rid of the safe that is in plain sight, consider making it a decoy safe. Replace your actual valuables with items of very little value so that the burglars will be distracted and deflected away from your actual valuables and will instead waste their time trying to crack this safe, or remove it altogether.
Here are some alternative locations and methods to secure your valuables:
In a hidden pullout drawer built into stairs
Have a floor safe installed. Cover it with a sofa, chest freezer, or even just a dirty clothes laundry bin.
As a fake HVAC vent. The quicik safe with RFID looks like a nondescript HVAC register but can only be opened with an RFID key.
In a flushmount safe on the wall covered by a large piece of artwork.
But if you are going to keep a safe in your bedroom, a gunsafe like the Eufy Smart Safe S12 is equipped with a Panic button to immediately contact 911 in case of an emergency when your phone might be in airplane mode or powered off (professional monitoring service subscription required)
