The Three Gorges Dam is a massive hydroelectric power project located in China. While it has had significant environmental and social impacts, it does not have a measurable effect on the rotation of the Earth.

To understand why, we need to consider the basic principles of conservation of angular momentum. Angular momentum is a property of rotating objects and is defined as the product of the moment of inertia and the angular velocity. In the case of the Earth, its angular momentum is primarily determined by its mass, shape, and rotation speed.

The Three Gorges Dam is essentially a large reservoir that stores water behind it. When the dam is filled, it does increase the mass of water in that region, but the mass of the water displaced by the dam was already present in the Yangtze River before the dam's construction. Therefore, the total mass of the Earth and its rotation remain essentially unchanged.

It's worth noting that certain events or processes on Earth can have a very minor impact on the rotation of the planet, but they are generally associated with extreme natural events like earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, or changes in the distribution of ice masses. The Three Gorges Dam, while substantial in size, does not generate forces or movements on the scale required to affect the rotation of the Earth.
