The Grand Opening of Code Ninjas Chelmsford - we go and check it out!

The nice folks at Code Ninjas Chelmsford invited me and James down for their grand opening - this gave us the opportunity to have a little taster session of what kids can get up to there.

We had an absolute blast and James has been telling everyone since we visited how he can 'code' now!

Being Chelmsford's only martial arts-inspired coding studio, it's no surprise that they like to do things differently! Students are called ninjas, teachers are called Code Senseis, and the studio is called the dojo. The ninjas work through a coloured wristband (belt) system which represents their experience in the programme, just like in martial arts! Ninjas complete the programme at their own pace and are supported by Senseis every step of the way. By the end of the programme, ninjas will have developed a game or an app of their own.

Co-owner Stephen said, "Ninjas can attend up to two sessions a week and at times that are convenient to the family, with no need to attend sessions on the same day or time each week. We also offer coding camps over the school holidays."

John and Stephen have put considerable safety measures in place, ensuring social distancing guidelines are adhered to whilst also maintaining the fun environment already enjoyed by students in 250-plus Code Ninjas centres in the US and Canada, as well as the UK.

“First and foremost, Code Ninjas is a safe space and ensuring our students feel comfortable and parents feel reassured is our number one priority,” said Stephen. “Although we should be out of the nationwide lockdown by then and able to celebrate our launch properly, we’ll still ensure our own guidelines are met so our ninjas can focus on enjoying themselves, learning valuable life skills at the same time. We’re excited to be able to have a positive influence on the young minds of our community.”
