Calabria is the southernmost region of Italy, the "toe" of the Apennine "boot". This region has been called the "Caribbean of Europe" - thanks to its pristine beaches, mesmerising landscapes and rural charm. Rolling mountains, wooded hills and vineyards alternate with roads criss-crossed by fertile plains stretching to the sea. Hilltop towns, ancient Greek temples and Byzantine churches can be found here and there in the countryside like precious little pearls.
