Difference between ETFs and Mutual Funds:
ETFs:
Have no account minimums to invest
They’re very liquid (because you can buy and sell them during market hours similar to trading ordinary stocks)
They typically have 3-4 letters in their ticker symbol (ex: VOO)
You can purchase them on nearly any platform you invest on.

Mutual Funds:
A minimum investment amount may be required, which could be thousands of dollars
They are also less liquid because trades only go through at the end of the market day
They typically have 5 letters in their ticker symbol (ex: VFIAX)
Typically you can only purchase them through the provider that issues them, unless you pay an unnecessary fee like buying a vanguard fund through fidelity costs $100 per transaction.

What is the S&P 500 Index Fund?
This index fund contains 500 of the largest US based public traded companies and is commonly referred to as the stock market benchmark. Since 1957, the fund has averaged around 10% of an annual return. The most popular ETF here is VTI. To see more options, check out the video!

What is the Total Stock Market Index Fund?
This index fund covers majority of the small, mid, and large cap sized publicly traded companies in the US, resembling the entire US economy. A popular option here is VTI.

What is a Growth Index Fund?
A higher risk, higher reward that I solely refer to for Large Cap Companies with growth style characteristics. Examples here are SCHG, QQQM, and VUG.

What is a Defensive Index Fund?
When it comes to the stock market, for this I refer to stable dividend income earning companies such as Coca-Cola and Procter and Gamble which are companies that even in poor economic times, will still sell products and have an operating business. My favorite here is SCHD or FDVV.

What is an International Index Fund?
This includes companies that are based outside of the US and improves diversification among your investments. Although I only have a small amount, I think the additional exposure is great for those interested. Also know that the performance historically has been as strong as the US. A solid example here is the ETF VXUS.
