Sniper rifles, scorpions, scarabs, oh my, what a fantastic experience the mission The Ark in Bungie's Xbox 360 spectacular Halo 3 is.
Following the story of Master Chief as he's joined by Miranda Keyes, The Arbiter, Sergeant Johnson and 343 Guilty Spark in attempting to unlock the secrets of The Ark following a message from Cortana, it utilises so much of the Halo series’ incredible sandbox within a series of wildly varied encounters and is one of the best parts of Halo 3’s campaign, rivalled only by later mission The Covenant in terms of sheer quality.
In this video, I analyse everything from The Ark's level design and gameplay to its story, setting and soundtrack, to try and analyse why it's such a unique experience, while also drawing comparisons to Halo 3 missions The Covenant, The Storm and Halo, well as other games in Bungie's amazing Halo series including Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2.
