Pakistan: Prices of fruits and vegetables hit record high during Ramadan
In Pakistan, prices of fruits and vegetables have skyrocketed, getting out of reach of the common citizens. The prices of all vegetables including potatoes, onion, tomatoes, ginger, garlic, green chillies, mint, lemon and coriander has been increased from Rs 50 to Rs 300 per kg violating price lists issued by the district government price control committee.
On the other hand, the price of fruits including apples, guava, strawberries, bananas, oranges and watermelon has been raised from Rs 200 to Rs 600, respectively. The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) released the data according to which the inflation was recorded by 1.80 per cent in the first week of Ramadan, while the weekly inflation rate reached 48.35 per cent.
