Generalized anxiety disorder is an anxiety disorder also known as GAD.

According to studies women are twice as likely as men to experience GAD

It is normal to feel anxious once in a while about things happening in your life.

People who suffer from generalized anxiety disorder worry uncontrollably about situations and occurrences.

People who suffer from generalized anxiety disorder worry uncontrollably even when there isn’t a reason to worry, the person is often aware that there is no reason at all for them to worry but they can’t help it and cant control it at all.

They may feel something bad is going to happen to them.

Symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder include

difficulty concentrating
difficulty sleeping
irritability
fatigue and exhaustion
muscle tension
repeated stomachaches or diarrhea
sweaty palms
shaking
rapid heartbeat
numbness or tingling in different parts of the body

The test is based over the last 3 three months of your life.

1. Have you felt excessively worried for more days than not?
2. Have there been times when you couldn’t identify what was causing your anxiety?
3. Have you felt keyed up, on edge or unusually tense more days then not?
4. Have you been avoiding situations that you think may cause you more anxiety?
5. Have you had trouble falling or staying asleep?
6. Do you struggle to stay calm or calm down?
7. When you feel worried do you experience tightness in your chest, shortness of breathe, a pounding heart or feeling like you’re chocking?
8. Have you had trouble concentrating?

How is generalized anxiety disorder treated?

1 Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)

2 Medication

You can also make some lifestyle changed to help you ease some of the symptoms of GAD

1 Regular experience, plenty of sleep and a healthy diet
2 Yoga and meditation
3 Avoid stimulants such as coffee
4 When you feel anxious talking to a friend or family member about your fears and worries.
