Stop the bleeding. This is the most important step. Apply direct pressure to the wound with a clean cloth or bandage. If the bleeding is severe, you may need to use a tourniquet.
Call for medical assistance immediately. Even if the wound seems minor, it is important to get medical attention as soon as possible.
Monitor the victim for signs of shock. These include pale skin, rapid breathing, and a weak pulse. If the victim goes into shock, lay them down on their back with their legs elevated. Loosen any tight clothing and cover them with a blanket.
