Best Productivity Tip for INFP Writers

The secret to INFP productivity is that INFPs need structure, even though structure is also a big weak spot for INFPs. Surprisingly, INFPs actually do well with structure, but they don’t do well in creating it for themselves. Once INFPs know this, they can work with structure in a different way.

The key is to get help from someone else, ideally an outside party who is not attached to the INFP’s outcome. This could be a professional creativity or writing coach, an accountability partner, or a friend who is not invested in the outcome of the INFP’s writing project or creative project.

The best strategy is to meet with this outside party, nail down the next three immediate steps that need to be taken, and then for the INFP to make an agreement to do each of those steps, not moving onto the next until the last is done, and then checking back in when steps are finished. The steps should be simple, realistic, and also give a sense of forward progress.

It’s very important that the INFP is given a simple structure to follow from an outside party because it’s easy for INFPs to get lost in their internal world, especially when they grow bored with different steps in the process. When they are able to define a structure to follow, and then make a commitment to someone else that they will follow it, and then do the steps in order, an INFP writer and/or an INFP artist is setting themselves up for success.
