Most drum machines and sequencers don't support importing MIDI clips or loops, which is a shame because there are plenty of MIDI clip/loop libraries out there with excellent content, many played by real drummers with obvious human groove and feel, which is quite hard to program manually.

This video offers a workflow to "import" MIDI clips into practically any modern drum machine and sequencer using a DAW and a simple MIDI effect. It then shows how you can quickly find loops in at least one large database - using the "tap to find" feature in Toontracks' products. If you're familiar with other such tools, please leave a comment below.

NOTE: See below of your drum machine needs MIDI notes to be sent on separate channels like the Electribe.

FOR DRUM MACHINES THAT NEED EACH NOTE TO BE SENT ON A SEPARATE CHANNEL: here's what you need to do (say, for example, the Electribe):
(1) Set up a MIDI track in your DAW for each of the Electribe channels you want to send notes to;
(2) Set MIDI from in all these tracks you set up to the track that has your source MIDI drum clip
(3) add the Pitch MIDI effect to each channel track as needed
(4) Set the MIDI to to the Electribe MIDI channel you want to play on.
That's it - it should work! You can group the channels later if they make the screen to busy, and you don't need a MIDI effect rack.
