Right before my thumb healed, my brother messaged me this idea. Apparently my grandma was like "Jules should play a song with Banjo strings on his guitar", and my brother was like, "Wait... what if he did the Banjo Kazooie theme?" Of course my thumb was broken so I had to wait, but once it healed I got SWAMPED with work that built up outside of YouTube. I actually finally decided to do it now, because I couldn't think of a Halloween song I really wanted to do this year besides Mad Monster Mansion... again. Figured this would do.
I needed two different packs of Banjo strings to make sure I could actually have a descending string pattern. Even still, the strings didn't quite sound balanced once I was able to figure out how to even put them on the guitar. I decided to record it pretty much as is, but in post I needed to do a good amount of volume stuff before the amp because the wound strings were way quieter than the others. I ended up using Archetype Plini for the Clean and Leads, and Nolly for the Rhythm Guitars.
The real challenge here was that I actually started this Sunday morning and I wanted to get it out by today. I really challenged myself to see what I could do in about a 12 hour window and this is about it I think! I would have liked to go more all out with the video like usual, but I think I'm starting to transition back to this style of video since it's easier and I can spend more time on the song selection and audio quality.
