There’s a few ways to move layers between Photoshop documents.
You can drag a layer from the layer palette to another open document.
You can click and drag the layer in the artboard to another open document.
You can right-mouse or control- click on the layer name and select “Duplicate Layer…” This is also available through the layer palette drop down menu, by dragging the layer to the new layer icon while holding option, and through the top menu—under layer.
When the dialog pops up, change the destination document from your existing document to your target document.
When moving a layer to another document, it will put it either above your selected layer or, if none is selected, at the top of the document. This also applies to clipped layers.
Holding SHIFT down while copying the layer makes it land in exactly the same position as your source document. This only works if the pixel dimensions of the two documents are identical. If they aren’t the same, holding SHIFT will make it land in the exact center of the document.
