I've recently been to South Africa to the province of Kwa-Zulu Natal in the country's east. As well as going to Durban I also went on a safari which was a 3-hour drive away. I stayed at the luxury Phinda Private Game Reserve which has 6 different lodges - mine was called Mountain Lodge and was unbelievably stunning and luxurious. Everything was all-inclusive and all the game drives were amazing as were the rangers. It's famous for having the Big Five and over the two days I was there I saw ALL THE BIG FIVE so easily. The Big Five includes the buffalo, rhinoceros, leopard, lion and elephant. They all feature in the video as well as so much other wildlife roaming free here from a cheetah to giraffes to hippos to zebras to impala to dung beetles! We saw a white rhino and her calf - this was amazing because they were nearly extinct at one point and they have been saved from extinction in this part of the world. The video also shows my wonderful accommodation at Phinda's Mountain Lodge - I stayed in a villa with a thatched room which had a fabulous bath tub with a view and a terrace (again, with a phenomenal view over the African plains) and my own plunge pool. The food here was exceptional (also featured in this video) and during the safari the rangers would stop, set up a trestle table and serve us drinks. Hot drinks if it was morning; sundowners if it was late afternoon. I even went on a bush walk. This ended up being hairier than intended when my ranger spotted FRESH LION PAW PRINTS. Yikes. Needless to say we got out of there fast!
