The Duolingo English Test (DET) now requires the use of a phone as a secondary camera. The phone records test takers’ computer screens and keyboards, providing additional data about the testing environment.
Why is a secondary camera needed?
This DET is committed to test security and integrity. The secondary camera serves as an additional observational tool, helping proctors make the most informed validity decisions possible. This deters intentional rule violations and can help demonstrate that honest test takers are following all rules.
Requirements
Test takers will need:
• A fully charged phone with a camera
• A stable, heavy object to lean the phone against
• A phone charger (optional)
Test takers may borrow a phone if they don’t own one. They may also use a tablet if needed. A secondary laptop cannot be used.
