Le molteplici sfaccettature di Olly emergono anche con “La notte”, la cover del brano di Arisa pubblicata prima su Instagram e, successivamente, in un duetto ufficiale con la cantante ligure. Prima di indossare la giacca di DSCVR Artists To Watch 2024, il cantante ha partecipato al Festival di Sanremo e pubblicato l'album ‘Gira, il mondo gira’.
Inutile dire che Olly è entrato nel nostro studio con grande slancio. “Ho adorato l’energia sul set,” ci ha detto in seguito. “È una grande opportunità per mostrare la mia musica e connettermi con nuove realtà al di fuori dell’Italia.” Con queste live session di “A Squarciagola” e “Tutto male”, ora tutto il mondo può scoprire le varie sfaccettature di Olly.
The ability to slide multiple emotional layers under the hood of a catchy tune is one major sign of a promising pop musician. Olly had that gift from the jump. Check “Il Primo Amore,” the Genoese rhymer’s breakout hit from a couple years back. It’s an impressively wide-ranging portrait of young romance, starting with the butterflies and ending with the inevitable goodbyes. Similar to the songs of fellow husky-voiced loverboy Bad Bunny, listeners don’t need to speak the language to identify with the passion. The accompanying heart-wrenching video grabbed more than 100,000 views in its first week, by the way. 2020’s ‘lo sono’ saw the beginning of his creative partnership with producer JVLI, who Olly credits with introducing electronic and pop to his musical palette. The four-to-the-floor oomf of the JVLI-produced “Quando Piove” definitely stands out from the hip-hop stylings of the four songs on the EP that were helmed by Yanoni, Olly’s other go-to producer at the time. The next year the duo drove further down the EDM path with “Lego,” a fist-pumping club banger replete with triumphant horns and singalong falsettos. But as mentioned at the top, remember, Olly’s got layers. He followed up “Lego” with an Instagram cover of “La notta,” a ballad originally sung by fellow Liguran coast singer Arisa; in fact, she liked it so much that she hopped on the official version. More recognition has come this year. Before donning the DSCVR Artists To Watch 2024 jacket, he won the regional section of Italy’s annual popular television contest Sanremo. Fans and critics alike are fawning over his ‘Gira, il mondo gira’ album, both contingents hailing it as another step forward in craft. Needless to say, Olly rolled into our studio with plenty of momentum. “I loved the energy on set,” he told us afterwards. “It is a great opportunity for me to showcase my music and connect with new and beautiful realities outside of Italy.” With these performances of “A Squarciagola” and “Tutto male,” now the whole world can unpeel Olly’s layers.
