René Leibowitz conducts this comic little opera by Christoph Willibald Gluck titled "L'Ivrogne Corrigé" (The Reformed Drunkard or The Devil's Marriage). Synopsis: Mathurin, a boisterous inebriate, promises his charming niece, Colette, to his partner in wine, Lucas. Colette, along with her virtuous lover, Cléon, and Mathurin’s long-suffering wife, Mathurine, turns the tables by enacting a scene of Stygian damnation, forcing Mathurin to renounce the bottle and mend his ways.
